MBLA Know Your Rights! Youth Forum – March 3, 2017
On Friday, March 3, 2017 at 5:30pm, the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association and Boston Police Department together with numerous community based organizations will host the 3rd Annual Know Your Rights! Youth Forum at the BCYF Mildred Avenue Community Center in Mattapan, MA. The forum is a youth driven program which features role plays, solution based discussions and a panel of experts of color. The topic this year will be police interactions in the context of the school-to-prison pipeline, with a focus on the youth perspective. The target audience is middle and high school aged children. In attendance will be police officers, attorneys of color, court personnel, community organizers and youth leaders. Many young people feel their voices are not being heard. Many young people are not aware of their rights when they encounter police at school or in the street. Many young people are forced into the school-to-prison pipeline. This program seeks to address these issues in a fun and interactive way. We plan to create opportunities for the students to drive the conversation. This provides insight to what students are thinking in their daily interactions with police and educators and how we, as professionals, can better address and respond to their concerns. When: Friday March 3, 2017 5:30 pm Registration 6:00 pm Program begins Where: BCYF Mildred Avenue Community Center 5 Mildred Avenue Mattapan, MA 02126
