Janeal Hoyte is Associate General Counsel at the Massachusetts Office of the Inspector General where she plays a key role in safeguarding the Commonwealth’s resources by helping to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse.
Janeal earned her J.D. from the Massachusetts School of Law, where she held several leadership roles including President of the Black Law Student’s Association, Secretary of the Student Bar Association and Director of Alumni Affairs for the Northeast Black Law Students Association’s (NEBLSA). She received her B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Before joining the Office of the Inspector General Janeal gained valuable experience as a judicial intern for the Honorable Judith Dein at the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. She also served as a Reginald Lindsay Fellow and held multiple internships at the Essex County District Attorney’s Office – first as a 3:03 Certified Student Attorney and later as a Juvenile Justice Intern. Additionally, she interned at Senator John Kerry’s Office. Janeal is an active member of the Boston Bar Associations’ New Young Lawyers Steering Committee and a member of the Massachusetts Black Women Attorneys.
Outside of her legal work, Janeal is deeply involved in several non-profit organizations. Janeal loves to travel, knows how to the play the steelpan, and proudly celebrates her Barbadian heritage.
