PART-TIME TEMPORARY STAFF ATTORNEY

Community Legal Aid (CLA), the non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income and elderly clients in central and western Massachusetts, seeks an attorney to work three days a week for one year in the Elder Law unit of its Worcester (central Mass.) office. The attorney will focus her efforts on assisting elders who are victims of abuse perpetrated by family or household members, including seeking restraining and anti-harassment orders and initiating family court proceedings as necessary. The attorney will also work on the units other core areas, including homelessness prevention and income maximization. In addition, the attorney will engage in community outreach and education on legal issues affecting elders. The attorney will also be expected to assist in the preparation of periodic grant reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Admission to Mass. Bar or entitlement to practice under a Mass. practice rule is required. Experience working with elders and/or working on domestic violence matters strongly preferred. Fluency in Spanish or Vietnamese strongly preferred.

TEMPORARY STAFF ATTORNEY

Community Legal Aid (CLA), the non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income and elderly clients in central and western Massachusetts, seeks an attorney to work on housing and homelessness issues in its Worcester (central Mass.) office for approximately six months to cover for an attorney on leave. The attorney’s work will focus on defending tenants in eviction cases and representing victims of housing discrimination in court and at administrative agencies. In addition, the attorney will engage in community outreach and education. The attorney will also be expected to assist in the preparation of periodic grant reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Admission to Mass. Bar or entitlement to practice under a Mass. practice rule is required. Experience working on housing issues affecting low-income people strongly preferred. Fluency in Spanish or Vietnamese strongly preferred.
