Community Legal Aid (CLA), the non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income and elderly clients in central and western Massachusetts, seeks a full-time staff attorney to provide legal assistance to migrant and seasonal farmworkers in housing, employment, immigration, and other matters. The attorney will be based in Springfield and will handle cases for clients throughout the five counties of central and western Massachusetts. The attorney will also engage in outreach and education activities throughout the region and will participate in meetings with local and regional community partners. The attorney will be expected to be a resource for other legal aid programs around the state, including engaging in collaborative litigation and outreach across Massachusetts. The attorney will be responsible for some grant writing and reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS: Admission to Mass. Bar or entitled to practice under a Mass. practice rule required. Fluency in Spanish required. Access to reliable transportation and travel to remote areas of Massachusetts, sometimes after normal business hours, required. Prior experience working with farmworkers and familiarity with the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act preferred. Salary is based on a scale commensurate with experience.
