Overview:

The mission of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.

If selected, you will serve as a senior trial attorney responsible for trying complex and high profile cases in federal district courts and before administrative law judges and furnishing support to the Department of Justice in criminal prosecutions.

Typical duties include:                                                                       

  • Provides expert advice for the conduct of litigation of the most complex SEC cases in a specialized area of law.
  • Heads a team of professionals researching the interpretations of statutes and rules, developing arguments addressing highly complex legal and factual issues, preparing complicated documents, conducting hearings or fact findings, dealing with opposing counsel, presenting oral arguments, and arguing or supervising others arguing the cases.
  • Provides expert litigation advice, including policy and regulatory recommendations by maintaining and exhibiting knowledge, insight, and understanding of the assigned specialized segment of the market; monitoring legislative and regulatory developments and rulemaking that impacts SEC decisions; utilizing and developing databases and technological tools; anticipating trends and practices in the markets; developing novel and non-traditional pro-active approaches; developing cases that present unique legal, evidentiary, and policy challenges and present the opportunity to establish legal precedent as well as have the greatest deterrent impact.
