ABOUT CABINET RELATIONS

The Cabinet Relations team is an integral part of the Governor’s Office that helps to implement the priorities of the Governor, Lt. Governor, and Secretariats in order to improve services for the citizens of the Commonwealth. The team works as liaisons to the Cabinet Secretaries and their staff, helping to carry out the Governor’s priorities and assist in responding to complex challenges. The Cabinet Relations team works alongside secretariats to help develop policy, improve business processes, support strategic operations, manage performance goals, and to research best-practices and innovation in government.

JOB OVERVIEW

As a member of the Cabinet Relations team, the Senior/Project Manager: Strategic Operations works with senior members of the team to support cabinet secretaries and agency heads on the most complex operational and service delivery challenges. Acting in an internal consulting function, Cabinet Relations works with agencies to perform rapid on-site diagnostics, research best-practices, recommend solutions, and help implement changes designed to improve effectiveness of the organization. In addition to working with agency staff, the team frequently works alongside external consultants, outside vendors, and state employees across agencies. This position reports to the Director of Special Projects and Strategic Implementation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Management

o Define the scope of the project and clearly articulate issues at hand

o Establish success metrics and reporting mechanisms

o Plan timelines and identify resource needs

  • Organizational Diagnostics

o Collect and analyze internal and external data sources

o Map current processes and highlight areas for improvement

  • Recommend solutions for consideration

o Facilitate working sessions with various stakeholders

o Conduct research on best practices as needed

o Assist teams and leaders prioritize solutions

  • Work with leaders to implement policy, operational efficiencies, process changes, or other solutions alongside agency staff
  • Work across Cabinet Relations, Governor’s Office, and Secretariats on critical issues and initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s in business, public policy, organizational behavior or other relevant area preferred
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience required; 5+ years preferred;
  • Consulting experience preferred

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in using, Microsoft Office: particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
