Raytheon’s Office of General Counsel is seeking an experienced lawyer to be an intellectual property counsel for Corporate Headquarters. Reporting directly to the Company’s Chief Patent Counsel, this position will be responsible for a variety of diverse IP legal matters across the Company. This person may support the evaluation of invention disclosures and supervise the preparation and prosecution of US and foreign patent applications. The successful candidate may support the preparation, review, negotiation, and revision of the IP aspects of various proposals and agreements. The successful candidate will be a leader capable of working collaboratively with the relevant general-law lawyer responsible for the business segment in which the IP issue arises; be able to positively influence how teams handle a range of IP matters; and integrate easily into teams to create timely solutions to IP problems that make good business and legal sense. The preferred candidate will have: (i) experience in software licensing and some technical understanding of software (ii) experience in patent filing and prosecution (iii) experience in evaluating patents for validity and infringement, (iv) experience in intellectual property transactions and (v) some experience with, and understanding of, the intellectual property aspects of contracting with the US Government. This lawyer will collaborate with other lawyers, engineers, and leaders in contracts, supply chain, business development and other portions of the Raytheon businesses. Experience in patent litigation would be a plus.
Responsibilities may include: · Identify and evaluate opportunities for exploiting intellectual property · Assist in the full range of intellectual property transactions · Manage the protection of intellectual property including patent filing and prosecution · Perform IP review of software products and their license agreements to determine compliance with government regulations and rights to technical data and software, and third party software, including FOSS · Assist with or prepare licenses and appropriate exhibits as necessary to comply with FOSS and other third party software · Provide general counseling and advice on intellectual property matters and how intellectual property impacts Raytheon · Support of M&A due diligence activities as it concerns intellectual property · Work with in house and outside counsel to support litigation activity and opinion activity involving intellectual property · Patent portfolio analysis and review for acquisition, disposition, licensing or other activities · Strategically manage patent and IP portfolios
