Job Announcement: Bilingual English/Spanish Helpline Advocate

Short-Term, 10-15 hours/week

Massachusetts Advocates for Children (MAC) is a private non-profit child advocacy organization dedicated to being an independent and effective voice for children who face significant barriers to equal education and life opportunities.

MAC is seeking a bilingual (English/Spanish) special education advocate to provide assistance through our Helpline to Spanish-speaking families and to assist staff attorneys on cases for Spanish-speaking clients. The position will involve gathering client information through interviews and review of records, providing information and assistance to parents that contact our Helpline, and documenting communications using our Helpline database.   The law advocate will also work with MAC staff attorneys representing Spanish-speaking parents, assisting with client communications and case development.

Successful applicants must be fluent in English and in Spanish and have some knowledge and/or experience in special education advocacy. Experience working with vulnerable populations is highly preferred.

We are looking to fill this position for three months beginning in October, 2015 and ending in January, 2016. Compensation will be based on experience. Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume to Diana Santiago, staff attorney, at dsantiago@massadvocates.org. Applications will be considered until the position has been filled.
