Benefits Attorney – Community Legal Aid

Community Legal Aid (CLA), the non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income and elderly clients in central and western Massachusetts, seeks a full-time staff attorney to provide legal assistance in public benefits matters. The attorney will assist clients with cases involving the full range of government benefits programs, including TAFDC, Food Stamps, EAEDC, and MassHealth. The attorney will also help homeless families access the state’s Emergency Assistance shelter system. The attorney will also engage in outreach and education with community partners and other stakeholders. The attorney will be based in Springfield and will do some traveling throughout western Massachusetts to meet with clients and colleagues and represent clients in hearings.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Admission to Mass. Bar or entitled to practice under a Mass. practice rule. Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred. Reliable transportation required. Experience in public benefits law and/or demonstrated commitment to serving low-income people preferred. Salary is based on a scale commensurate with experience.
