SEIU ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL

The Legal Department of the Service Employees International Union has an opening in January 2015 for an Associate General Counsel to lead the legal work of SEIU’s Property Services Division.

 

SEIU is a progressive and dynamic labor organization representing over 2 million workers in the United States and Canada, principally in the property service, public services, and healthcare fields. The Associate General Counsel will join the SEIU Legal Department, a collegial and diverse group of 23 attorneys and law fellows who engage in innovative lawyering in pursuit of organizing new workers, improving working standards, engaging in political action, and achieving social justice for all working families.

 

The Associate General Counsel will be the lead counsel for SEIU’s Property Services Division, focusing on the following core

industries: janitorial, security, airports and multi-services.

Responsibilities may include: providing legal advice to union officers, local leaders and staff organizers on strategic campaigns; handling unfair labor practices and wage and hour matters in connection with organizing campaigns, developing and pursuing creative legal strategies to aid organizing campaigns; implementing the Division’s organizing agreements; drafting proposed legislation, regulations, executive orders and other policy initiatives.

salary is commensurate with experience. Applicants should have at least ten years of experience, particularly with the NLRA (e.g. strikes and secondary boycott) and collective bargaining, as well as excellent legal analytic, research and writing skills, a strong

academic record, interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated
