The City of Burlington is seeking an Assistant City Attorney to join the City’s legal team. Currently, the City Attorney works with a Senior Assistant and three Assistant City Attorneys to serve as corporation counsel for Vermont’s largest city. The Office handles a wide variety of legal matters ranging from traditional municipal tax and planning issues to cutting edge policy and political concerns.
This position is an annual mayoral appointment and will be a key partner in helping to provide legal services to the City’s more than sixteen departments, the Mayor, the City Council, and over thirty City boards and commissions.
The position requires a J.D., admission to the bar of Vermont, and six years of related work experience. Experience and comfort with public speaking and the ability to produce effective, quality writing on a broad range of legal matters are essential. The salary range of approximately $69,936 to $78,084 is commensurate with experience. The total compensation package includes generous health and wellness benefits, paid time off and a defined benefit retirement plan.
