DSNI LogoWe at Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative are launching our mentoring program, Stronger Leaders Brighter Future, this year and we need your help!
Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (“DSNI”) is 30+ year old resident-led, non-profit planning and organizing entity in the Roxbury/North Dorchester area of Boston. DSNI’s mission is to empower Dudley residents to organize, plan for, create, and control a vibrant, diverse, and high quality neighborhood in collaboration with community partners.
The Stronger Leaders, Brighter Future mentoring program was created out of a need for a greater presence of caring, consistent adults in the lives of youth within the Dudley Village Campus (“DVC”), an area of Roxbury/North Dorchester that is home to over 4,000 school-aged children and a geographic focus area of DSNI. The goals of the program have been to (1) connect youth in the DVC with a caring adult through a mentoring relationship, (2) empower youth to make positive decisions through skill building and goal setting plans, and (3) to expand youth’s resources by helping them navigate systems in order to achieve their goals and reach their highest potential.
That’s where you come in.
We’re looking for caring adults like yourself (21 years or older) to help achieve these goals by supporting our 8th – 12th grade youth in the DVC through a one-to-one mentoring relationships. You will (1) serve as a role model, (2) build a lasting relationship, (3) help your Mentee with their motivation and self-esteem, and (4)guide them in setting and accomplishing their goals, with the support of DSNI. We ask mentors and mentees to meet 4-6hrs/month or 1hr/week, including monthly group sessions, from January to June. We’re looking for people who are good listeners, supportive, respectful, willing to commit to being consistent, have a genuine interest in our youth’s future, and, of course, looking to have fun!
I know you can’t wait to get started, but there are a few things you should know. In order to keep our youth safe and secure suitable mentors, there are different parts of the application process that all interested mentors must complete:
1) An online (here) or written application (attached)
– Including 2 references
2) An Interview with the Mentoring Organizer
– Schedule a time here
3) A Criminal record check (CORI)
4) Attend a Mentor Orientation session
If you’re interested in moving forward or have any questions, please contact:

Lastly, if you know of any DVC youth between 8th and 12th grade that may be interested, please spread the word to them!
