The Attorney General’s Office is looking for a highly motivated attorney with extensive computer and prosecutorial experience to handle cyber crime matters within the Enterprise, Major, & Cyber Crimes Division of the Criminal Bureau. The Criminal Bureau is staffed by a group of experienced prosecutors who partner with financial investigators, Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Attorney General’s Office, and local, state, and federal investigative and enforcement agencies.

Primary Duties:   The Assistant Attorney General will handle a large caseload of cyber crime matters from investigation through sentencing. Cases will include computer crimes such as possession and dissemination of child pornography, theft of trade secrets, stalking/harassment, and hacking; economic crimes such as larceny and embezzlement, securities and bank fraud, consumer fraud and identity theft, public corruption, including bribery, and tax crimes. The work includes extensive grand jury investigations throughout the Commonwealth, complex motion practice and frequent appearances before the Commonwealth’s District and Superior Courts for motions, pleas and trials. Responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to:

  1. Leading investigations conducted with the assistance of Massachusetts State Police Troopers and financial investigators of the Attorney General’s Office, as well as investigators of other agencies, such as the Department of Revenue and the Office of the Inspector General;
  2. Working with Assistant Attorneys General in other divisions of the office and overseeing search warrants and other matters involving digital evidence.
  3. Advising and assisting in the implementation of the Attorney General’s Cyber Crime Initiative including, but not limited to, creating and implementing state-wide forensic standards and creating and implementing trainings for law enforcement and forensic examiners;
  4. Teaching at training programs throughout the Commonwealth and country, as well as attending appropriate trainings throughout the country.

Position Requirements: Applicants must be practicing attorneys and members of the Massachusetts bar; possess the ability to handle a large and advanced caseload; and have substantial Superior Court experience (5 or more years) in criminal practice, including grand jury investigations, motion practice and trials. A strong background in computer forensics and cyber crime prosecution and trainings is preferred. A valid Massachusetts Driver’s license is required as travel is necessary to various courts. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve.
