Attorney General Maura Healey is looking for an exceptional and highly motivated attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the Office of the Attorney General’s Public Protection and Advocacy Bureau in the Fair Labor Division. The Attorney General’s Fair Labor Division works to achieve a level playing field for the Commonwealth’s workers and employers.
The Division enforces Massachusetts labor standards and the public construction bid laws through criminal, civil, and administrative enforcement actions. The Division’s work ensures that strong economic growth and fairness for workers go hand-in-hand.
Primary Duties: The AAG will develop and litigate civil and criminal cases involving Massachusetts labor standards, including statutes that address non-payment of wages, overtime, minimum wage, child labor, workplace safety, and public construction prevailing wages. The position also involves collaboration with stakeholder groups, reviewing and drafting legislation and regulations, and participating in outreach and education as necessary.
Position Requirements: Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in the practice of law or in a position requiring membership in the Massachusetts bar.
Preferred Qualifications: Seeking a highly motivated attorney with a minimum of five (5) years litigation experience, including criminal litigation experience in the district and superior courts, as well as grand jury or equivalent civil litigation experience. Working knowledge of Massachusetts labor and employment laws. The ability to handle complex and challenging matters and represent the Commonwealth effectively in court and with the public. Strong writing and communication skills, including substantial deposition, advocacy and trial experience. We seek an individual who will work independently and as part of a team, and is committed to working in the public interest. Foreign language skills are preferred, but not required. Individual must be a member of the Massachusetts bar.
Bureau/Division: Public Protection & Advocacy Bureau/Fair Labor Division (Boston office). May be assigned cases in other branch offices depending on need.
Supervisor: Matthew Berge, Division Chief
Salary: $2,494.90 to $3,605.16 bi-weekly. Salary is determined by procedures outlined in applicable collective bargaining agreements and personnel procedures.
