ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL – NEW BEDFORD REGIONAL OFFICE
Attorney General Martha Coakley is looking for an exceptional and highly motivated attorney to join her Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Office in New Bedford as an Assistant Attorney General to handle a broad range of civil litigation.
Primary Duties: Responsible for affirmative civil litigation, including civil rights, consumer protection, the Office’s Abandoned Housing Initiative and other civil litigation. The civil rights litigation includes enforcement of state and federal civil rights laws in areas such as housing, public accommodation, employment, First Amendment, and hate crimes. The consumer litigation includes enforcement of state and federal consumer protection laws from investigation through trial. The Abandoned Housing Initiative enforces receivership actions against homes left abandoned as a result of foreclosures. Civil litigation may also include representing the Commonwealth in tort, contract and administrative law claims. Responsibilities may include speaking at training programs and participating in community outreach projects. The Assistant Attorney General’s primary focus will be in the Southeastern Massachusetts region but at times may work directly on matters with members of the Attorney General’s other offices.
Position Requirements: Three to five years of full-time legal experience, including civil trial experience, is preferred. Strong analytical, organizational, writing and oral advocacy skills are essential. You must be a member of the Massachusetts Bar with a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
