Abim Thomas is a counsel in the Litigation Department of Goodwin Procter LLP, where her practice focuses on white collar crime, government investigations, and gaming. Prior to joining Goodwin Procter, Ms. Thomas served as Deputy Chief Legal Counsel to Governor Deval Patrick. Prior to working for Governor Patrick, Ms. Thomas was a litigation associate at Ropes & Gray LLP. While at Ropes & Gray, Ms. Thomas served on the Associate Advisory Committee to the Diversity Committee, the Women’s Forum and the Associate Development Committee. Ms. Thomas graduated from Harvard College where she was a Psychology major and served as Class Marshal to her graduating class. Ms. Thomas earned her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, where she worked in the Institute for Public Representation representing clients with discrimination claims, participated on the Alternative Dispute Resolution team, served as the Vice President of the Student Bar Association, and was an Editor for the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law. Ms. Thomas has previously served as both the Executive Vice President and a Director of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association. Ms. Thomas is a member of the Supreme Judicial Court’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services as well as the Supreme Judicial Court’s Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers Oversight Committee. Ms. Thomas also serves on the Board of the Women’s Bar Foundation and the Epiphany School. Ms. Thomas was selected by the Women’s Bar Association as a mentor for its Women’s Leadership Initiative. Ms. Thomas was named one of the “Top Women of Law” by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly for 2014. Ms. Thomas was also recently named to the Lawyers of Color Hot List, which recognizes attorneys who are excelling in the legal profession. In 2013, Ms. Thomas was selected as a “Rising Star” in Gaming Law by Super Lawyers Magazine.
