Labor & Employment Counsel – GE Aviation

The Labor and Employment Counsel will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within area of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy. In addition, you will:

• Represent the business in public and private legal proceedings and provide business leaders with legal advice that supports the business’ objectives in compliance with labor laws, employment laws, and benefit laws;
• Provide legal advice and counsel regarding practice areas including: the Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, National Labor Relations Act , Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Executive Order 11246, Employee Retirement Income Security Act, Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, False Claims Act, Sarbanes-Oxley Act; employee data protection; state law wrongful discharge; corporate separateness and contingent worker issues; alternative dispute resolution; affirmative action and diversity; work transfers, plant closings, reductions in force and outsourcing; drug-free workplace; workplace violence; workers’ compensation; unemployment compensation claims, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; non-immigrant work visas, European works councils, and foreign labor/employment laws; union avoidance and union relations ; strike contingency planning and strike response; union contract negotiation, grievances, and collective bargaining obligations; employee discipline and termination; and drafting of employment separation agreements;
• Provide representation at proceedings: Represent the Company in labor arbitrations, in private mediations and arbitrations of employment claims, and before local, state & federal regulatory agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, the Wage & Hour Division and other divisions of the Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, Ohio Civil Rights Commission, Ohio
  Bureau of Employment Services, and others; and
• Retain and work effectively with outside counsel, and cost-effectively manage labor and employment litigation.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school;
• Minimum of 5 years of licensed practice in labor and employment law;
• Member in good standing with the State Bar; and
• GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.

• •Minimum of 3 years of first chair experience with NLRB “R” and “C” case proceedings, EEOC / state agency charges, wage-hour compliance, OFCCP audits, statutory mediations and arbitrations, and labor arbitrations; and
• •Labor law and employment law practice at both top law firm and corporate legal department.
