CORI Volunteer Opportunity

On February 19, 2014, the MBLA partnered with Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) to assist those who need legal help sealing their criminal records. The event was held in honor of Black History Month and in celebration of the 5-year anniversary of the GBLS CORI & Re-entry Project. Horace Small from the Union of Minority Neighborhoods and Boston City Councilor Tito Jackson provided remarks. MBLA volunteers assisted with intake.

Northeastern BLSA Soul on Fire Symposium

Affinity Bar Leadership Institute Session: Event Planning 101

On February 12, 2014, the MBLA joined members of other affinity bar organizations for a panel on event planning at the Boston Bar Association. Immediate Past President Rachael Rollins was one of the panelists. The panelists gave advice on planning large events for your bar organization, including strategies for securing sponsorships.

2014 Black History Month Volunteer Reading

In honor of Black History Month, MBLA members read to kindergarteners and first graders at the Joseph Lee Elementary School on Wednesdays throughout the month of February 2014. The purpose of these readings was multifaceted: to introduce kids to new words, stories, and lessons and for them to see adults of color in the professional world.
