2013 Professional Development Event

On February 23, 2013, the MBLA partnered with the Boston Bar Association to host District Court Boot Camp for New Lawyers at Suffolk University Law School. The program drew over 75 participants. The event was designed to provide novice lawyers with a basic understanding of the procedural and practical world of litigating matters in the District Court. From initiating suit and arraignment up to trial, participants learned what is necessary to meet the demands of busy District Court litigators. Panelists included MBLA President-Elect Serge Georges of the Law Offices of Serge Georges, Jr., Hank Brennan of Carney & Bassil, and District Court Judge Matthew J. Machera.

Black History Month Volunteer Reading

On February 6 and February 13, 2013, members of the MBLA read to students at the John Marshall Elementary School in honor of Black History Month. Members brought their favorite books to share with the students.

On January 25, 2013, the Northeast Region of the National Black Law Students Association (NEBLSA) and the MBLA hosted the Welcome to Boston Alumni Networking Reception at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge.

Martin Luther King Service Event

On January 23, 2013, members of the MBLA served dinner at the Pine Street Inn in honor of the Martin Luther King Day of Service and as part of the MBLA's ongoing volunteer efforts in the community. Members of the MBLA who were unable to attend this event were encouraged to participate in volunteer opportunities offered by Boston Cares.
