Overview:
The mission of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.
This position is in the Division of Corporation Finance- Office of Chief Counsel located in Washington, DC.
In support of the Commission’s mission to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation, the Division of Corporation Finance seeks to ensure that investors are provided with material information in order to make informed investment decisions, both when a company initially offers its securities to the public and on an ongoing basis as it continues to give information to the marketplace. The Division also provides interpretive assistance to companies with respect to SEC rules and forms and makes recommendations to the Commission regarding new rules and revisions to existing rules.
Typical duties include:
- Serving as an expert adviser on Corporation Finance programs.
- Providing expert legal advice and assistance for issues or legal problems typically involving controversial and sensitive matters related to statutes administered by the Division.
- Advising the key executives and staff on questions of law or administrative policy involved in the operations of the SEC and in its contacts with industry, private and professional associations, state, local, and foreign governments, and the general public.
- Analyzing and interpreting new legislation, implementing regulations and briefing the key executives on their purpose and effect.
