Associate General Counsel (Two Positions)

Boston University’s Office of the General Counsel seeks two experienced attorneys to join its staff of lawyers who provide legal advice and representation to the trustees, executive officers, and administrative and academic units of the University in a challenging and stimulating environment.

Qualifications for both positions include excellent academic credentials and a minimum of five years’ experience in a high-quality legal practice, superior written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, familiarity with legal issues affecting large research universities or other complex organizations, and the ability and willingness to handle a wide variety of legal matters both independently and as part of a team.  Applicants should be licensed or eligible for immediate licensure to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Litigation/Employment/Student Affairs (Job Tracking Code 8867)

Responsibilities will include litigation, employment law counseling, faculty affairs, student affairs, immigration, regulatory issues, as well as a wide range of general corporate advice.  Specific qualifications include extensive litigation experience in state and federal court and before administrative agencies, as well as substantial experience in all aspects of employment law, including counseling, defense of discrimination and other employment claims, and development of employment policies.  Prior experience representing institutions of higher education strongly preferred.

Healthcare/Transactional (Job Tracking Code 8866)

Responsibilities will include provision of advice in a variety of healthcare and transactional matters, including regulatory compliance, clinical affiliation agreements for student placements, physician practice operations, research and academic collaborations and exchanges, sponsored research, commercial transactions and general business matters.  Specific qualifications include expertise in applicable health care laws and substantial experience working on regulatory compliance programs, business transactions, and general corporate matters.  Experience handling research and academic collaborations and exchanges will also be valuable.  Prior experience in an academic medical center or medical school or relevant law firm experience strongly preferred.
