The MBLA Board of Directors is excited to formally announce the establishment of the MBLA Building The Legacy Scholarship Fund, a fund established through a fiscal sponsorship arrangement with the Boston Bar Foundation to support the MBLA’s portfolio of student scholarships.
The mission of the MBLA scholarship program is to increase the number of racially underrepresented minority lawyers practicing in the Commonwealth by ensuring would-be attorneys who have demonstrated a commitment to practicing in the Commonwealth have the financial support they need to complete their legal education and focus on their academic achievement while enrolled. The MBLA Building the Legacy Scholarship Fund will support the three student awards that now compose the MBLA scholarship portfolio: The Roderick L Ireland Juvenile Justice Award; The Judge Reginald B. Lindsay Public Service Award and, new this year, the Fletcher “Flash” Wiley Legacy Award.
The Wiley Legacy Scholarship was established to honor one of the MBLA’s most distinguished and supportive past Presidents, Fletcher “Flash” Wiley, and his embodiment of the MBLA Legacy: a legacy of service, academic achievement, transformative leadership and a conviction to “lift as you climb.” Students and academicians can learn more about this new opportunity, which will award up to $10,000, as well as the other awards available by visiting theĀ Law Student Scholarship Page on the MBLA website.
