Bart Gordon Fellowship – Staff Attorney Position

South Coastal Counties Legal Services (SCCLS), a non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income and elderly clients in Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands, seeks qualified candidates for a Bart Gordon Fellowship. The purpose of the Bart Gordon Fellowship is to provide civil legal services to low-income communities who may have difficulty accessing the justice system due to linguistic, racial, cultural or disability barriers and also to encourage careers in legal services. The fellow will work in concert with a Racial Justice Fellow at the Center for Law and Education, parents, and community groups in the southeast region to ensure that legal tools and strategies are used to identify and combat practices or policies in New Bedford, Fall River, and Brockton school districts which discourage or keep children of color, children with disabilities, ELLs, and low income children from becoming successful learners and successful adults.

Qualified candidates must be 2015 law school graduates eligible to take the Massachusetts bar examination in 2015, or someone who has graduated from law school in the past 30 months. The attorney position will be located in the Brockton office of our subsidiary, the Justice Center of Southeast Massachusetts. Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Crioula, or Haitian Creole strongly preferred. SCCLS and its subsidiary, JCSM, are Equal Opportunity Employers.
