Attorney General Maura Healey is looking for a highly motivated litigation attorney to investigate and prosecute civil rights cases in Massachusetts state and federal courts. The attorney will be part of the Attorney General’s Civil Rights Division, which investigates and prosecutes civil rights cases in areas such as education, employment, healthcare, housing, disability, financial services, public accommodation, voting and the enjoyment of individual rights, autonomy and privacy under the law. These cases involve challenging and complex enforcement initiatives, coordination with other state agencies and federal authorities, policy development, and close work with community and advocacy groups.
Primary Duties: Lead investigations and litigate civil rights cases in state and federal court; review and mediate complaints from members of the general public; coordinate participation in multi-state initiatives with other states AG offices; review and draft amicus briefs and proposed legislation; and conduct outreach with community and advocacy groups.
Position Requirements: Applicants should have a minimum of five years of civil litigation experience, possess excellent writing and advocacy skills, have strong communication skills, be a self-motivated and diligent worker, and exhibit strong commitment to public service and civil rights work. Prior litigation experience in the area of civil rights is preferred, but not required. Foreign language skills are preferred, but not required. Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar.
