Job Summary: The Director of Compliance is responsible for the day to day operations of the APG Compliance program and provides expertise, consultation and guidance for compliance activities. The Director is a member of APG Senior Leadership and exercises independent judgment without fear of reprisal, so that employees feel comfortable bringing forward a compliance issue or question and trust that the issue will be addressed and as appropriate, acted upon.

The Director will report directly to the APG CEO with a dotted line reporting to the BIDMC Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance, Audit and Risk Officer, as outlined in the Compliance Program Oversight Plan for Wholly-Owned Affiliates. On a regular basis the Director shall also report on the operation of the Compliance Program to the Board through the APG Board Compliance Audit and Risk Committee. The Director will serve as a role model for ethical and moral principles that are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of APG, the APG Code of Conduct, and with the applicable principles required by federal and state law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Functions as an independent and objective leader responsible for day-to-day oversight and administration of the APG Compliance Program, and ensures that the program is designed in a manner consistent with the Office of Inspector General’s recommendations for physician practices.
Regularly reports to the APG Management Compliance Audit and Risk Committee, the CEO, and APG leadership on the status of the compliance program, and assists them in establishing methods to reduce the vulnerability to fraud, abuse, and waste. The Director is authorized to report on matters related to compliance to the Board.
Periodically reviews the compliance program in light of changes to the organization’s needs, and in the law and policies and procedures of government and private payer health plans and propose modifications, if necessary. Conducts regular assessment of compliance risks and mitigations and develops an annual Compliance Work Plan.
Collaborates with other departments within APG and the Medical Center (e.g., Office of Compliance and Business Conduct, Risk Management, Human Resources, Internal Audit and the Office of General Counsel) as needed to resolve compliance and legal issues.
Manages the goals of the privacy program as the APG Privacy Officer.
Has the authority to direct and support managers with functional area responsibilities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: None Indirect Reports: None

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
5-8 years related work experience required and 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required
Knowledge of healthcare operations and certification in Compliance preferred.
Knowledge and experience in business/organizational ethics. Ability to work effectively with people especially in awkward and difficult situations.
Ability to motivate and direct others.
Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
