Position Description:
Suffolk University is seeking an experienced, collaborative, outcomes focused and innovative attorney with a commitment to diversity, community and the University’s academic mission to serve as Associate General Counsel. Under the general direction of the University’s general counsel, the successful candidate will advise the University’s senior administration and academic and administrative offices on a broad range of legal issues, including complex transactional matters, employment and labor law, student affairs, academic affairs, intellectual property, statutory and regulatory compliance, and other matters as assigned by the general counsel. Responsibilities, where appropriate in conjunction with other offices, will include developing policy, drafting and negotiating contracts, delivering oral and written advice, preparing and delivering training, advising University committees, conducting research on legal issues and best practices, analyzing and advising on risk issues, and representing the University in hearings and other legal proceedings, independently or in conjunction with outside counsel.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
• Excellent academic credentials, including a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school, and a minimum of seven years of significant experience in the practice of law are required: 10 years or more preferred.
• Superior oral and written communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the proven ability to work collaboratively with other University professionals and to independently manage complex and novel legal issues are critical to the position.
• Experience advising higher education institutions and/or serving in-house at a complex organization is strongly preferred.
• Experience in three or more of the following areas is strongly preferred: contracts, employment/labor law, regulatory compliance, litigation and policy development.
